Wildfire Sky 2018-2020 The following images depict the Bay Area landscape engulfed by smoke. In 2018, a city ironically named Paradise, made history. It was destroyed by the largest fire to ever burn in California at the time. On November 16th, 2018 the air quality in San Francisco was the worst in the world. Climate change is the retaliation of our living Earth disrespected by those who inhabit it. It felt like the world was burning down - it certainly looked like cinematic representations of the apocalypse. Regional fires ignited by severe drought caused the sky to become a disturbing hue of orange. The air quality was a danger to the lungs of all, especially those who do not have access to airtight shelters. Living in a Victorian apartment with original windows, warped and weathered from the 1800s, I was not safe in my own home. Debilitated by the toxic particulates in the air, I learned that I have asthma. Going out with my camera during this time was a way of processing my fears and understanding my undormant illness. |
